Food-Grade Plastic Pallets

Food-grade plastic pallets for UK food and beverage supply chains. HDPE construction, smooth non-porous surface, rated for repeated wash-down cycles, and compliant with the UK and EU food contact regulations that matter to your auditors. Held in stock and dispatched next day from our Widnes depot.

Why HDPE, Not Wood, For Food

Wooden pallets absorb liquid, harbour bacteria in splinters and cracks, and cannot be effectively washed between uses. HDPE plastic pallets are non-porous, hose-down clean in 60 seconds, and immune to mould, rot and splintering. For any facility carrying BRC, SALSA or equivalent food-safety accreditation, plastic is the only defensible choice at audit.

Why HDPE Food-Grade Pallets

Spec, Sizes and Load Ratings

Standard UK food-grade pallets are 1200 x 1000mm with a dynamic load rating of 1250 kg and a static rack rating of 4000 kg. Euro 1200 x 800mm and Display 800 x 600mm variants are also in stock. All food-grade stock is manufactured from virgin HDPE (no recycled content) to meet UK and EU food contact regulations.

Closed-deck construction is our default for food: no rib traps, no moisture pooling, no crevices for residue to lodge in. Hygienic open-deck options are available for dairy and beverage applications where rapid drainage is more important than a fully flat surface.

Food-Grade Plastic Pallets FAQs

In the UK and EU, food-contact plastics must be manufactured from approved virgin material, cannot leach chemicals at defined limits, and have to be traceable back to their resin source. Our food-grade pallets meet all three tests and ship with compliance documentation on request.

Yes. HDPE tolerates industrial detergent and hot caustic wash cycles at normal food-plant temperatures and concentrations. Expected service life in a wash-and-reuse loop is 10+ years.

Slightly, yes. A UK food-grade plastic pallet weighs around 22 kg versus about 20 kg for a standard new wood pallet. Against the closed-loop lifespan and wash-cycle savings the extra weight is irrelevant in total cost.

Yes. Plastic pallets are exempt from ISPM15, so they ship anywhere without heat-treatment or marks. For overseas food-grade flows this is often the deciding factor.

Blue is standard. White, black and custom colours are available on production runs of 500+ pallets with a modest per-unit uplift.

Yes. Because food-grade pallets stay valuable through many trip cycles we offer competitive buyback on surplus stock, either for resale into other food operations or for recycling into a new batch.
