ISPM15 Requirements By Destination Country
ISPM15 is adopted by 180+ countries but each destination has its own enforcement, documentation and pallet-specific quirks. This page is a practical reference to the major UK export corridors: what the importing country expects, where enforcement is strict, and which of our stock lines ships as standard. All our heat-treated pallets leave Widnes with IPPC-marked, traceable treatment records.
Major Corridors at a Glance
EU: No ISPM15 requirement on intra-EU movement, but post-Brexit UK-to-EU movements now fall under the standard and need compliant pallets. US, Canada and Mexico: strict enforcement, pallets rejected at port if marks are unclear. China: strict, with additional fumigation certificate requirements for certain goods. Australia and New Zealand: strict biosecurity, ISPM15 is the baseline with extra quarantine requirements for bark. India: enforced but with longer grace periods than most.

Why Enforcement Varies So Much
On paper the standard is identical everywhere. In practice the gap between the text and the enforcement is large. Ports with active pest-risk histories (Australia, New Zealand, US west coast) inspect aggressively and reject shipments for smudged stamps alone. Other ports pass the vast majority of shipments through and only spot-check. This is why compliance matters even if you have shipped the same lane for years: the cost of a rejection is typically the cost of the cargo, not just the pallet.
Palltech treatment records stay on file for five years as standard. If a destination agent queries a mark, we can reproduce the treatment certificate for any batch inside that window.

ISPM15 By Country FAQs
Yes, since Brexit. Wood packaging moving from GB to the EU must comply with ISPM15, the same as any other third-country origin.
Australia and New Zealand have the most demanding biosecurity at the border. A smudged or missing IPPC mark is often enough to hold a container. China is close behind for goods where an additional phyto certificate is required.
Not beyond the IPPC mark. US Customs and Border Protection will refuse a shipment if the pallet is non-compliant, and the cost of re-export or destruction falls to the importer.
Depending on the country, options include fumigation on arrival, destruction of the packaging, re-shipment to a country of origin, or destruction of the goods. All are expensive. ISPM15 compliance is the cheapest insurance you can buy on an export shipment.
Yes, as long as the mark is still legible and the pallet has not been repaired with untreated wood. Any repair with non-treated boards requires re-treatment and a new mark.
Every legitimate treatment facility is registered with its national plant protection organisation. Our UK registration number is on every pallet we treat. It can be cross-checked with the Forestry Commission.
